I should begin by telling you a little about my history with short term missions. When I first came on as Youth Pastor 2001 at Calvary Chapel my Pastor told me one of my responsibilities would be taking teens on the mission field. I wasn’t given much instruction beyond that. I learned really quickly the proper and improper ways of fundraising; the joys of agendas, air fare, travel details, what to bring lists, and the shortage of access to foreign bibles in Maine. I also learned that all the planning in the world did not accomplish God’s plans on the mission field. I can, on this side of things, say with conviction the most important preparation for a missions trip is personal prayer and staying yielded to the Spirits agenda. Having said that I would also add how valuable it was for me to team up with another church that had prior experience on the field. There is a training necessary before one can simply lead a team on a foreign gospel adventure.
My first several ventures were in a small town in Mexico called San Vincente. I loved those people and still do. A church was planted in that town, souls were and are still being saved. We built a number of homes for mothers and their children that were running from abusive relationships. You might be wondering why I ever stopped my involvement with that work? Well it’s like this, with all that was being accomplished there every time we went it seemed there was 3 more churches on our heels to minister to the same people. The Lord started stirring my heart towards an area without that level of support. You see there is human need everywhere. We don’t need to look beyond our neighbors to find people to serve and present the gospel of Jesus Christ. However there are people in this world with little to no effort around them reaching out for Him. It was with this prayer in mind that God led us to Honduras. We’ve been going to Honduras in Central America as frequent as possible for the last 4 or 5 years. A Calvary Chapel was planted there a few years prior to our arrival. A small work at first but God has continued to bless the servants there. There are two different communities we have served. One is Ojojona where God has allowed us to build a Church/storm shelter for the saints there, where before that they were meeting in an old chicken coup. We have also served in the Capital city Tegucigalpa. Our efforts have included everything from teaching bible studies through translators, assisting with outreaches and Vacation Bible Schools, spending time at the orphanages, and simply trying to encourage the body of Christ. As of right now it is our goal to get back there this December. We would like to rebuild a home that desperately needs it for a family in ministry there in Tegucigalpa and we also have the desire to do some conference level teaching at the church for the staff and church leadership. Please pray for our trip this year and that God would bless and move in the hearts of the Hondurans. To whom much is given, much is required.

Debo empezar diciéndole un pequeño acerca de mi historia con misiones cortas de término. Cuando vine primero en como Pastor de Juventud 2001 en Capilla de Calvario mi Pastor me dijo que uno de mis responsabilidades estaría tomando a jóvenes en el campo de misión. Yo no fui dado mucha instrucción más allá de eso. Aprendí realmente rápidamente las maneras apropiadas e impropias de recaudación de fondos; las alegrías de órdenes del día, la tarifa aérea, viaja detalles, qué traer las listas, y la escasez del acceso a Biblias extranjeras en Maine. Yo también aprendí que toda la planificación en el mundo no lograba los planes de Dios en el campo de misión. Puedo, en este lado de cosas, dice con convicción la preparación más importante para un viaje de misiones es oración personal y permaneciendo rendido al orden del día de Espíritus. Habiendo dicho que yo también agregaría cuán valioso fue para mí unirse con otra iglesia que tuvo experiencia previa en el campo. Hay una instrucción necesaria antes que uno pueda dirigir simplemente un equipo en una aventura extranjera de evangelio.
ReplyDeleteMis primeras varias aventuras estuvieron en un pequeño pueblo en México llamó San Vincente. Adoré a esas personas y todavía hago. Una iglesia fue plantada en ese pueblo, las almas fueron y todavía son guardadas. Construimos varios hogares para madres y sus niños que huían las relaciones abusivas. ¿Usted quizás esté preguntándose por qué yo jamás paré mi participación con ese trabajo? Bien es así, con todo que fue logrado allí cada vez nosotros lo fuimos pareció había 3 más iglesias en los tacones de atender a las mismas personas. El Señor empezó a batir el corazón hacia un área sin ese nivel de apoyo. Ve hay la necesidad humana por todas partes. Nosotros no debemos mirar más allá de nuestros vecinos para encontrar que personas para servir y presentar el evangelio de Jesucristo. Como hay personas en este mundo con pequeño a ningún esfuerzo alrededor de ellos alcanzando fuera para El. Estuvo con esta oración en la mente que Dios nos dirigió a Honduras. Hemos estado yendo a Honduras en la América Central como frecuenta como posible para el último 4 o 5 años. Una Capilla de Calvario fue plantada allí unos años antes de nuestra llegada. Un pequeño trabajo al principio pero Dios ha continuado bendecir los sirvientes allí. Hay dos comunidades diferentes que hemos servido. Uno es Ojojona donde Dios nos ha permitido construir un refugio de Iglesia/Tormenta para los santos allí, donde antes que que encontraran en un golpe viejo de pollo. Nosotros también hemos servido en la capital Tegucigalpa. Nuestros esfuerzos han incluido todo de enseñar Biblia estudios por traductores, ayudando con alcances y Escuelas de Vacaciones Biblia, pasando tiempo en los orfanatos, y tratando simplemente favorecer el cuerpo de Cristo. Al en este momento es nuestro objetivo a volver allí este diciembre. Querríamos reedificar un hogar que necesita desesperadamente para una familia en el ministerio allí en Tegucigalpa y en nosotros también tenemos el deseo para hacer alguna enseñanza de nivel de conferencia en la iglesia para el liderazgo del personal y la iglesia. Ore por favor para nuestro viaje este año y para que Dios bendeciría y movería en los corazones de los hondureños. A quien es dado mucho, es requerido mucho. Aaron
